When Winning Feels Like Losing: The $20K Profit That Cost $2 Million
Ash Robin bought $80K of PONS at a $40M market cap, sold for a $20K profit, then watched it run toward $950M. He calls it a $2 million fumble.

He made money. He's still mad about it.
Crypto streamer Ash Robin (102K followers on X) posted on October 13 about what he calls the fumble of his career. Early in Robinhood Chain's life, he says he bought around $80,000 of $PONS at a $40 million market cap.
Then he sold. Right before it ran to $950 million.
"I fumbled over $2 million dollars, but I made $20,000 on the trade 😭" — Ash Robin on X
A $20K win. A $2M "loss." Welcome to crypto math.
What is PONS?
PONS is the token behind Pons, a launchpad for spinning up tokens on Robinhood Chain, the Ethereum layer 2 run by Robinhood. DefiLlama describes it as a launchpad for fixed-supply tokens that "graduate" to Uniswap liquidity. The Pond Street Ledger says it takes the biggest share of the chain's fees.
That was Ash's whole thesis. In the clip attached to his post, he says that when the memecoin $PIPEDOG took off, he went looking for dips elsewhere and bought PONS "because it's the leading launchpad on Robinhood."
He was right. He just wasn't right for long enough.
The run he missed
The token's first pool opened July 13, according to The Pond Street Ledger. The screenshot from Ash's stream shows PONS at $42.7M market cap on the fomo trading app, matching his story.
From there, it went vertical. CoinGecko data cited by MABOnChain puts the all-time high at $0.971 on September 5. With a 1 billion max supply, that's a fully diluted value of roughly $970M, which lines up with Ash's $950M figure. (Circulating market cap at the peak was lower, around $650M.)
Quick math: $80K bought at $40M and held to $950M would be about $1.9M. "Over $2 million" is in the ballpark, depending on his exact entry.
And then it came back down
Here's the part the regret skips. PONS didn't stay up there.
MABOnChain reports PONS traded around $0.35 on October 14, still down about 64% from its high, even after a 15% bounce on unverified rumors of a $100M+ Robinhood Chain grant program. DefiLlama shows a market cap near $228M.
So the dream exit only existed for a short window. Most people who held through the peak never sold there either.
Why it stings so much
Replies to Ash's post were a support group.
"Turning an $80k bet into $20k profit and still calling it a fumble is peak crypto," wrote one user. Another said he fumbled six figures on the same coin: "The game isn't one of theoretical home runs but hitting singles and doubles consistently."
Another reply summed up memecoins in one line: "being right on the entry but wrong on the exit."
That's the trap. A realized $20K gets compared to an imaginary $2M, and the brain books it as a loss. Chasing that imaginary number is how people end up holding coins all the way down.
One disclosure worth knowing: Ash's X bio lists the trading app fomo and a crypto casino as partners, and he runs a paid trading group. The chart in his clip is on fomo.
